When I first considered making the plunge into Veganland I had a whole bunch of questions. I had a gut feeling that it was the right way to live but I wasn’t sure if it was entirely healthy and I wasn’t convinced that my actions could even make a dent in the ethical treatment of animals. Some really tough questions arose. Even more pop up each day. So here I attempt to answer them the best I can.
Maybe you are thinking about becoming vegan, too. Maybe you are seeking the same answers. Or maybe you just need a little advice about how to respond to Aunt Ethel when she insists for the hundredth time that everyone needs milk or else they will keel over and die from a lack of calcium. I try to help you out here and give advice and personal insight on how to deal with the onslaught of doubters and the rest of the world that thinks you are crazy for doing what is you know is right and standing up for what you believe in.
The Big Question: Why Go Vegan?
Oh, where do I start? I could start spewing off facts to
gross you all out or I could begin a lecture on the environmental harm,
ethical dilemma or abysmally disgusting Standard American Diet... but I
won't. Not yet. I'll just say what I tell others when they ask: "I eat
vegan for ethical and health reasons. For me, I know that it's the right
way to live."
